lessons in 2018


I’d like to share some lessons I’ve learned in the past two months. These lessons are for those who might actually be going through a phase, or for those who are very well and capable of making small changes in their lives for the better.

I’m at my weakest point now—physically. I’m in constant struggle to find peace with myself and my current condition. But through this phase I’m finding beauty in it all, one day at a time.

  1. Accept that you have a path already designed for you. Once you accept that, you will find yourself facing all that comes to you (whether good or bad) with a more open heart. There will be a willingness to accept even the worst, because you know it’s part of how you were designed, and that there’s something that’s meant to be learned from it.
  2. When praying, mention your everyday struggles and the people or things you speak ill off. You will find yourself being more conscious of what you say and the things you do when you constantly keep yourself aware of your imperfections, and strive to do better. When you pray for others, whether you like them or not, your thoughts of them will slowly shift from frustration/annoyance/anger to forgiveness and appreciation.
  3. Be thankful for the small things—for a full day at work, for your food, for your time to workout, for the comfortable bed you get to sleep in. When struggles or life’s hassles come, be thankful for them, too. Be thankful that you GET TO spend money and buy gifts for people, that you GET TO do chores to help your mom, that you GET TO commute instead of driving a private vehicle, that you GET TO work on a last minute project, that you GET TO drive to work even if it is a bit traffic. Think of what you GET TO DO instead of what you HAVE TO DO. Anything you get to do in this life is a blessing.
  4. Be honest. When you’re caught in a plan you don’t want to attend or in a sales talk from a friend selling you something you don’t want to buy, it’s okay to say that you’re not interested—nicely. Instead of hassling your way out of it by thinking of an excuse or leaving the conversation open-ended with “I’ll let you know” or “I’ll see,” and you’re surely not interested, spare yourself or the other person the hassle and just be honest. You’ll be surprised by how much you’ll get off your chest and how understanding the other person might be.
  5. The world—your friends, work, hobbies, and other obligations—will not die if you take a few moments to breathe. Take ten to fifteen minutes a day off your phone or computer, away from people or noise, outside the office. Your mind, body and soul need to breathe.
  6. Keep in mind that health care is mind, body, and soul care. You are what you do and what you consume. There are so many do’s and don’ts when it comes to things you should and shouldn’t do or consume. The best way to go about it is to learn and find a balance for everything.
  7. Do not let the world dictate the timeline of things for you. Social media can put a lot of pressure on your timeline because you see that people are getting engaged now, or people are earning so much money and living the life now. But it doesn’t necessarily mean now is your time, too. Let things flow, and trust that things will come when it’s meant to. Give yourself time to be ready for it. Find comfort in your own path, and just be happy for everyone else.
